The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades
Woohoo! I didn't fall asleep at my desk today! (or in a staff meeting)
I chalk it up less to the fact that I went to bed at 9pm last night and more to the fact that I only spent 3.5 hrs at my desk throughout the whole day.
Let The Rain Fall Down And Wake My Dreams
Today is evidence of two things:
1) Further proof that I made the right choice staying OUT of the miltary.
2) I soooo have got to get more sleep. A few hours cuts it when being entertained (perhaps entertaining as well) but it is not sufficient for the long days of staring at an uncooperative screen.
I was stuck for an extra 20-30 minutes commuting home from work and I could not keep my eyes open...quite literally.
I hate sleeping in public while alone - even on planes. I will close my eyes but not genuinely sleep. Today, I tried doing my sudoku and gave up after I kept losing my place to drooping eyelids. I put my head on the window and closed my eyes. The next thing I knew I was jerking myself upright again from actual sleep (repeat scene ~5 times).
Thank god there is someone else doing the driving.
5
RSM ~ No, you were being hassled for choosing sleep over BEER. There's a difference (though I probably would have chosen sleep over beer too as I am not a true fan of beer but I am a true fan of sleep). And besides, you probably looked and felt a LOT better than the rest of us the next morning.
Cat ~ would have been nice if you had mentioned that you were NOT the one doing the driving at the beginning of that post. You scared me!! Get some sleep!

How is it I knew you weren't driving even though you didn't mention it right away. I think I remember you saying you always take the train... or something like that.
As I often have long periods of no sleep and stare at computer screens all day - I guess I could say I've been there. *grin* Many times sleep is highly overrated.

Tommy, Tell Me Have You Seen The Light
Answers to Tough Questions (Written by kids):
HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10
No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10
HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8
WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that Usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9
WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7
The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
-- Curt, age 7
The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8
IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)
HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
And the #1 Favorite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.

Ricky has, at a very early age, discovered the key to a happy relationship.

I love to hear some of the things kids say. Not because, "they see things more clearly through the eyes of young age", but just because it is so damn funny.
Oh yeah HF6...I think I have a picture of you from the conference.
And This ... This Could Be ... The Summer When I Grow Up
It's never been like this
I am just starting over
I guess you have no choice but to grow up when you finally land a "career" ... but I sure as hell don't have to like it. Those painful, "this is what its like to suck it up, drive on, and be an adult" moments are leaving me with a lot of bitterness that I can't quite seem to spit out.
But no one ever promised doing what was best for you in the long run would be pleasant in the moments it takes to get there. (wait, isn't this the same rationale that landed me in DC in the first place?)
My inner clarity is becoming crisper through it all, so maybe it isn't all bad. There are purposes to the things we experience, right?
I will simply have to find a way to block out that knowledge right now. It is so not my style to ignore my heart but what choice do I really have? If I can throw a towel over the clock on the treadmill to get through my workout, I can throw a towel over this too ...
1
I hear you. Sounds awfully familiar...
Right now I'm in a miserable job that is eating me alive. And my hoped-for career is so close I can taste it. But it's not here yet, and in the meantime I feel like I'm living two different lives.
2
It's never easy. Ever. There are always going to be 2 sides to the sword. There IS a purpose to everything we experience. Wish I had some answers for ya. The best I can offer is some sun, some sand, and a fru-fru drink with a little umbrella in it. But you gotta get here to get them!

We've Got A New Bitch In The Family!!
Despite the fact that he never blogs (like he's busy or something), Telebush has a new puppy and needs help naming her. She's a mix of border collie, husky, and a little german shepard. Head on over and leave him a comment with your suggestion(in any thread really since its so stale over there).
And while you're running around ... go check these guys out:

Are you kidding? I *LOVE* being summoned! I honestly love it when I get to participate in that system. I want to be on the jury so I can judge the LAW and not just the facts. Please do read the http://www.fija.org/ site before you go! And if you want to be kicked off the jury before they get started, get a FIJA T-shirt and wear it -- they'll get you out of the room so fast, you won't know what happened.
3
I'm still waiting for one. The only time I was summoned was when I was a SAHM - which let me out of it as I couldn't afford babysitting and it used to be an excused absence... don't know if it is anymore. And no, I would NOT have any more kids just to get out of jury duty. *grin*

Been living in this county for 38 years... been living in this state for 40. I have YET to be summoned for Jury Duty. I am thankful and at the same time pissed off. I mean, c'mon. I'm a NATIVE RESIDENT... I must have something to contribute to this judicial system.
Oh. Never mind.
I am lovin' all over those shoes sister... (topic change).

Sorry HFS - they only come in whole sizes. You could take a chance that they might fit ...
They come in other colors as well, but I felt pink was most appropriate.

REPORT: 5/6 2:30p
This year's conference was unquestionably the bigger and better event that we had hoped it would be. It is a good trend to have in the conference business...
I was a lot more comfortable at this year's conference than last year's, so that made a huge difference in what I took away. Last year, I felt stupid for showing up and having to explain "no, I don't milblog..." to every person I had the courage to talk to (mostly because someone else introduced me to them). This year, I didn't feel so stupid explaining "no, I don't milblog ... I milblog when there are fundraisers or support orgs need to get the word out. I'm a supporter."
I met so many great people that have done so much to help the cause, the community, and the country that I really felt honored to be in their company. And the best part about going to these events is seeing that the milbloggers are doing this, not because they have to, but because they want to. For some, it is just fun or a personal outlet - but there is still a meaning and outcome so much greater than that for those affected ... something made all the more powerful by the fact that it isn't someone "just doing my job."
For the social aspect, it was a kickass weekend. I don't think I had more than 5hrs sleep during the weekend but who needs sleep when you're having a good time? And anytime I end up in bed at 4:30am with another woman, some serious fun was had (right AWTM?).
Overall, it was just great to see my friends again (especially the ones I didn't think were going to make it) and make some new connections I can look forward to seeing again next year.
1
You're right - definitely kick ass. Though someone seems to have designated us as "scamps". Not sure I like that connotation. Then again, we do resemble the comment, don't we?? It was so good to see you again! I'm glad you made it again this year and I'm already counting the days until next year. Tomorrow I will go in search of your shoe post!
Posted by: HomefrontSix at May 07, 2007 04:58 AM (4Es1w)
2
Hmm. It might be that teh "somene" you're referring to is none other that myself. The question for you m'dear, is how do you know that you were the "scamps" in question?
Guilty conscience, innit?
I had fun anyways, I'm almost certain. Very nice to meet you.
4
I alwasy miss the scamp calling damn....
thank you for the early morning offer as well Cat, and thank you for keeping my dead brain on track....
I stayed out much to late Friday....
I LOVE YOU, you make me laugh after 2 hours of sleep first thing in the morning...
5
Can I thank you for giving directions on getting to the airport! You were so good I didn't even get lost - that's quite a feat. *grin* It was wonderful to meet you.
Posted by: Teresa at May 07, 2007 07:35 PM (gsbs5)

Well, "No, I don't milblog" is a LOT like "No, I'm a civilian" which is what I spent all my time explaining last year. So I agree that already knowing some folks and some folks already knowing you makes a big difference. Definitely agree that the trend is trending in the right direction. Next year we'll need an extra day just to fit all the coolness in...
Good seeing you again.

It was such a pleasure to meet you. Your smile and energy were contagious...you were a blast to hang with!!
Desperation There's danger in frustration Complicated words slipping off of your tongue and ain't one of them the truth
I've spent the last 3 days with 9.5 hrs of attempting to keep myself semi-conscious without the benefit of the internet or a television, very limited news sources, severely limited email access, oh ... and no work to do. Unfortunately, I keep being told this is "normal" and I can expect many more of these days.
Seriously?
How on earth do they expect me to keep from throwing myself into the giant plate glass windows and getting tangled in their permanently drawn blinds as I tumble to my ultimate state of maim if they keep this up?
The four story drop and glass just might kill me ... if I'm having a particularly lucky day...
Everybody's Runnin' Like The End of The World Was Comin'Funny he should mention quitting. Ok, that's not the funny part. Its only funny cuz I thought he said quilting ... and I've been thinking of taking it up as a hobby.
What on earth I would do with quilts once I'm done with them, I have no idea. I am so not a quilt kinda girl. And I am most certainly NOT an afghan girl. But the hand stitching on my window treatments felt interesting ... satisfying ...
Sure, I managed to stab myself a couple of times with a needle, but no blood drawn. Still, it was calming.
But we'll see how my Sew Much Comfort clothes turn out before I take up quilting.
1
I love sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, all that stuff. I don't remember how to knit anymore, but it's easy to pick up again. It's very relaxing for me, and then I end up with cool stuff!
It Was A Different Life When We Were Boys and Girls Not Just A Different Time It Was A Different World
I don't know about anyone else's week, but mine ... it was a huge let down.
But then again, that seems to be a pattern around these parts. Lots of anticipation and excitement, expectations high ... only to discover nothing is as you thought it would be. Not. even. close. We don't need to rehash my miserably disappointing experience in grad school as evidence, do we?
Is it any wonder I don't really allow myself to be excited all that often? There just doesn't seem to be much point.
Oh, and I have reconfirmed my position on people as a whole ... with a few notable exceptions ... people suck.
2
Nope. People do NOT suck. Not as a whole. THEY DO NOT. People, base line being 'normal, everyday working Joes' do not suck.
They are good. They work hard and they live their simple life and they don't hurt anyone.
Jaded happens when we strive to be more than who we are for the sake of being who 'they' want us to be.
'They' aren't worth the sweat or the tears... 'they' cannot begin to understand what it feels like to feel.
I'm so downloading a song for BOTH OF YOU... and me. It will be there in the a.m.
STAY STRONG... even if it means quitting.
Integrity.

The Office is No Place For a Kink-Fest ... Unless My Salary Seriously Goes Up Cuz I've Found The Perfect Shoe
Ok ... seriously ... WOW
Amazon has truly shocked me. I don't really know why, but in searching for shoes today on Amazon ... I was shocked.
And educated.
I had no idea there were so many different types of fetish shoes. Nor did I realize that searching for my size shoe would bring so many of them up.
I have huge feet. I know this. I'm ok with this ...
My long toes come in very handy - and when you least expect it ;-)
Clodhoppers serve to provide a more painful whoopin when someone has it coming. There ARE advantages...
... Except when it comes to shoe shopping. Open toed shoes are less of a problem, but closed toed shoes ... freakin' nightmare. This is why I not only looked like a moron and wore strappy black sandals to my grandmother's funeral in February, in Kansas, but have spent days with shoes full of blood and carry rolls of athletic tape in my work bag.
Seriously though Amazon ... Buying shoes on the internet is hard enough. Do I really have to search through all the freaky sex shoes to get to what I need? And do I really need to be reminded that there are people out there with the time and money to buy/need freaky sex shoes while I am looking for "sensible" business shoes?
Not fair.
And I do not want to know where the heel of this shoe has been...
4
Ah hell - I wear those to vacuum the house, darlin'.

I'm Pretty Sure Its a Bad Thing When The Crap In Your Nose Turns Green
Yes, yes ... I know I left you loyal minions supporters without much to read for far too long. But I have my reasons!
- I'm getting ready for the Milblog Conference, putting my psudo-Kinko's uniform on again to make sure you all are informed once you get here. (Cuz you're all coming, right?)
- I've been shopping ... shopping my fat ass off for a big time coming up. And we all know how much I love shopping. I swear, I don't know what the hell designers are thinking. I find pants that are georgeous, long, and just downright perfect, except the waist goes up to my chest. Or ... I find a jacket that curves just right, hits at all the right spots, except the sleeves are a couple inches too short. Or ... I find the perfect shoe, in the wrong color. I just love shopping ...
- I'm sick ... again. I don't know what it is. I had it a month ago. I had it last year for a good several weeks. Last night, I had such terrible pain from the fluid trapped in my ear that I had to get up and take a shower just to ease it off a little. It worked temporarily. And a doc appt? Does little miss has-a-$2500-deductible-and-no-copays here look like she's made of money? I don't think so.

The designers were drunk and high this Spring. Shorts that go to knees, or the hootie..
Go figure.
Blouses that are feminine to be sure, but do not look good unless you are 70 pounds.
Pants that the waist is either to low, or tooo high.
Oh and the long torso look is in...
Trunks are appearently sexy who knew?
3
Oh yes indeedy, been shopping too.... not finding a darn thing except I did find a purse last night. Need a smaller one since I'll be schlepping laptop bag and luggage through the Metro from the airport. My current bowling ball bag is not suitable. Tonight I'm looking for shoes. Need a comfortable pair with a not very high heel, again for schlepping through airport and metro with luggage. I'm also in the market for a jacket or two in the right fabric, cut and color, that does not cost $100. Sheesh. Everything I saw was brown. Brown is not my color.

Viking Medic was announced to the family this morning as our newest addition. He seems like a nice enough kid, but he is RSM's son after all ... so we'll see how long that lasts. J/K bro ...

I almost forgot that I had blogged about Juicy Lucy way back when. So in Acidman's honor and on Assrot's behalf, here's another story ...
Scene: 1 dead lady, 1 tissue bucket, 6 teenagers assigned to expose muscle tissue and learn everything there is to know about each one - action, origin, insertion, nerve
By this point, we had spent several of our dissection days unpuddling the fluid that earned Lucy her name. She was fairly dry, kept moist instead by a mist sprayed on her at the end of every dissection day. Without her gallons of fluid to plump her up, she sagged and almost caved in places.
We had taken great care to peel her skin off in sheets, exposing blood vessels, muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and fat. The fat was blocking a clear view of everything else we needed to see so it had to go. Carefully removed, tweeze by tweeze of our tiny little tools meant to keep every structure in tact.
Being that there were six of us and one tissue bucket to hold everything we removed from Lucy, we had to find somewhere else to dump our tweezers full of fat. Where better than a pile on her torso?
Note, her torso was also one of those caved in places that looked remarkably like a bowl at the end of the day ... a bowl full of little yellow globs of fat ...
Or if you're a teenager ...
A bowl full of jujubes!!
But they were renamed Ju-Lu-bes, of course (and I've never eaten them again!)
1
Oh. Just. Oh my.
Dr. Jekyll (ex-h), during cadaver lab one day kept hearing little "tinks" on the table as he and his partner were doing a dissection on the genitalia of their cadaver. They found several little greenish discs under her... evidently the poor dear had been "hiding" her iron pills in her... yannow.
I'll stick with ju-lu-bes, thank you.
You crack me up, woman.
